Not prepared for this. Not yet.

When I went to bed last night I knew the forecast low of 34º F was going to be higher than the actual temperature in my neck of the woods. But when I logged onto the net this morning, I was not prepared for this:

Or this:
The almanac says these are near normal temps for our area. But I'm not ready, mentally or physically, for the cold. Yet.

I got a new jacket last weekend and I never felt any cold penetration on the cold mornings I rode last week. But I need to look into either some heated grips or heated gloves, 'cause my hands got really cold.

Doug, on my Alaska trip I gave in and bought a pair of Synergy electric gloves. I honestly don't know why I waited. They don't even feel like they are on until you turn them off. Not anything at all like I expected. It was money well spent.

Those temperatures are why I moved to SWFL!

Paul - Thanks for the feedback on your experience. With motorcycle gear, you get what you pay for!

Jeffrey - My wife's parents lived in Hobe Sound on the Atlantic coast for several years until they moved back to Ahia. Lost our winter vacation home (their home!!) in the process. :(

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. No twisties here, no scenic leaf laden trees. No electric gloves either. I was all muffled up in kevlar and full face helmet to ride home yesterday morning and the day shift sergeant looks at me and says: what are you cold? well it was 75.

Conch - With vistas like what you have its a good thing the roads are flat and mostly straight. I'd have a tough time keeping my eyes on the road.

And I must say that I appreciate your sacrifice of staying in KW and writing about paradise. I know, its a tough job but someone had to do it. :)

Micah - Yep, you picked the perfect time to miss the start of all the freeze warnings.

Don't tell me... I bet Daytona was sunny and warm, right?

On my bike ride this morning (and not a motorcycle, but exercise on a bicycle) I wore my long underware top under my T-shirt. It was sort of cool out (well, it was 70). I did have shorts on. :)

Jeffrey - Conch always says that anything below 70º F is like 0º in FL. I'm proud of ya' man, braving the cold like that!

OOooooo I LOVE cold weather riding! I guess it is just an acquired taste. I woke up in Gallup, NM a few weeks ago to 25 degrees! I LOVED it!

I just bundle up and look like that kid in A Christmas Story. :-P

Ken - For some reason I find the older I get, the less I like the cold. That wasn't always the case. I've spent half my life working outdoors and enjoyed the hot and the cold.

Still like the hot. The cold, not so much.
