Today in the US is Tax Day, the deadline for filing your tax return. Tax Freedom Day for 2009 was 2 days ago, April 13th.

Wikipedia says that "Tax Freedom Day is the first day of the year in which a nation as a whole has theoretically earned enough income to fund its annual tax burden." On Wikipedia, I also learned that in 1900 Tax Freedom Day was January 22nd. Things have changed.

People in other places have Tax Freedom Day later...

United Kingdom
Tax Rate 42% 2 June 2008

Czech Republic
Tax Rate 44.1% 11 June 2007

Tax Rate 44.8% 14 June 2008

Tax Rate 51.7% 8 July 2008

Tax Rate 53.6% 16 July 2007

Tax Rate 56.7% 29 July 2007

Celebrate your Tax Freedom Day by exercising the freedom of riding.

Ride Safe!

The famous fried bologna sandwich

Teresa and I have waited nearly 5 months to visit Waldo, Ohio, the home of G & R Tavern and we finally made the trip recently. It was a chilly 38ºF when we pulled out of the parking lot but the sun was shining brightly.

There were 19 bikes and 27 riders and passengers that braved the cold air; a measure of how badly everyone in this area has suffered from cabin fever and a general lack of good riding weather.

Famous for Foolishness

[It was an awesome ride into work today even though I have a killer headache from a flu-like bug that's going around. The ride home will be even better with temps near 70ºF.]

My home town of about 50,000 people has now been put on the map and one of its residents is getting his 15 minutes of fame, whether he wants it or not.

Here's a sampling of headlines from online newspapers from around the midwest and from as far away as Sidney, AU. Compliments of the Associate Press news wire...
