Today in the US is Tax Day, the deadline for filing your tax return. Tax Freedom Day for 2009 was 2 days ago, April 13th.

Wikipedia says that "Tax Freedom Day is the first day of the year in which a nation as a whole has theoretically earned enough income to fund its annual tax burden." On Wikipedia, I also learned that in 1900 Tax Freedom Day was January 22nd. Things have changed.

People in other places have Tax Freedom Day later...

United Kingdom
Tax Rate 42% 2 June 2008

Czech Republic
Tax Rate 44.1% 11 June 2007

Canada
Tax Rate 44.8% 14 June 2008

Germany
Tax Rate 51.7% 8 July 2008

France
Tax Rate 53.6% 16 July 2007

Norway
Tax Rate 56.7% 29 July 2007

Celebrate your Tax Freedom Day by exercising the freedom of riding.

Hi Doug,
Appreciate the wishful thinking thought...there is no such thing as tax free...they're taxing us to death and then some...
food for thought: Why are we payning state or provincial or whatever they pay in their countries sales taxes all year round?
Tax Free day...Dream on bud...where you been?
to cheer you up though check this out... I guarantee a long weekend chuckle.
